1937 - 1961 (J. Tostrup - Haakon VII/Olav V, 18K gold, no lion on top of the crown)

In 1937 it was decided to remove the lion on top of the globe. It was supposedly said that as the top of the order was a globe with a religious cross on top, then one could not have a lion above that between the cross and God. So it was removed from the design. However the returned 1906's that were returned had the lion removed before they were re-issued. One can easily see the marks when they have been removed. However new were also made and they have a perfect globe on top.

The 1937 series are made of gold. It is similar to the 1906, but the lion on top is removed. On this one there are very distinct marks when the lion has been removed. This was done when the old ones were re-issued. The hallmark stamp from the top loop is shown at the picture to the right. It is hallmarked with J. Tostrup Oslo 750.
